you smell!

hey cutiepies,

today was the first REAL snowfall of the year. like, real white snow on the ground for the entire day! i loved it. i will admit, though, that it was fukking cold. i think i need to buy a new winter coat because my peacoat just isn't keeping me toasty (even with layers!).

hmm. my roommate just brought me a banana nut muffin from starbucks. isn't she sweet? but it's because the boy at starbucks has a crush on her and gives her free food. oh! how i wish starbucks boys would have crushes on me. can you imagine--free signature hot chocolates and muffins galore. well, maybe galore is too strong a word--i wouldn't take advantage of the poor chap, i promise!

it's 12:27 am and i plan on being IN my bed by 1:30 am at the LATEST. it's my new plan, getting to bed by 1:30 am every day. staying up until 3:30 am just is not good for my skin.

OH! so my eye had an mini-allergic reaction to this eye cream i put on. it just like, swelled up. SOO at first i didn't realize it was an allergic reaction of sorts--i've never had one before! i just thought my eyes were being puffy. SO by the time i started combating the puff, it was too late. my right eye is now a little puffier than it used to be. just the TINIEST bit puffier right above the eyelashes, but forever i will have to live with this excess puff.

i gained weight this past week, so here's my plan for this/next week:

* lose 84 lbs
* study for finals
* get As on all my finals (this will definitely not happen seeing as i've had just about the worst semester ever, academically)

okay. i am going to wash up and hit the hay. goodnight poops!

Yo YO YO Mama's in DA HIZZOUSE

Hola,
... and that concludes all the Spanish I know. I'm a failure at, hmm, basically everything. In other news, I have pictures to upload to hopefully spruce this bad boy up but that won't happen until after Dia del Gracias ( maybe that means Thanksgiving?). On the music front, I saw Little Joy in Sunday at TT the Bear's. Their music is very cute and highly enjoyable ( yes I used cute to describe it). Cute is the only word that can truly describe Binki Shapiro. Fabrizio Moretti ( drummer of The Strokes) played guitar for a change and had lots of whitty banter to go along with his strumming ( such as proclaiming he is the " best liar ever" for making up a story about peeing his pants in high school). Rodrigo Amarante ( also of Los Hermanos) is amazing vocally and looks like the Tootsie pop owl so basically I want to be his best friend. So everyone should chhhhheck out their EP which is self-titled and came out about two weeks ago.

Boston Shows:

In promotion news:
Go see Vampire Weekend 12/6 at the Orpheum!!

Non promotion news:

12/11- Stella at the Wilbur Theatre

Cut Copy ( w/ Matt & Kim) Tickets go on sale for their show at the House of Blues ( which isn't even done being built so we'll see how this one pans out).

academia once again

hello cupcakes,

hope you are all well. i miss you. yes. YOU. i have't been on coconut brain in a while, and i've missed you.

the weather is seasonably warm (in the seventies daily), but i want it to be chilly. so chilly i need to rub my arms even if i'm wearing two layers of clothing. so chilly i can see my breath. i'm sick of the sun. i hope you understand where i'm coming from.

oh, well, regarding the title of this particular entry--tomorrow is my first day of classes (at a completely new insitution, might i add)! i'm nervous but excited. finally, after being insufferably bored for weeks while my friends returned to their schools, i am on the verge of being reimmersed into college life. oh boy. i cannot waaaaiiiit.

but that doesn't mean i desperately want to be thirty, flirty, and thriving. because i do.

i really do.

Boy by Band of Outsiders

Boy by Band of Outsiders is phenomenal. I love the adaptation of mens ware for women. The shoes that Manolo Blahnik designed for the fall collection is a perfect mix of casually cool and feminine.

fall is fast approaching

bonjour mes bebes,

how ARE you? are you making sure to do very summery things? there isn't much time left.

soon, we'll have a few months of colorful leaves, crimson-colored scarves and sweater vests and knee socks, brisk air, apple picking and all apple products, and the crunch of dry leaves under your feet as you walk down the street. aren't you excited?

i'll be ringing in the new season by attending my first week of classes! i'm nervous. i'm going to a new school, you see. hopefully, it'll be good. but i fully intend to do all the other fall things that a girl should do in fall. like, drink apple cider and read a book on a park bench with orange leaves all around me.  i'll let you how it is.

well, there is not too much new with me. pippi and eloise have already started school, and i can say i am jealous! i'm all summered out. hope you two are enjoying classes and the city<3

it's summer!

pippi, i too saw mgmt! (they were pretty decent. i think the sound might've been off, but that's not totally their fault now, is it?)

it was at lolla. unfortunately, my friends wanted to leave halfway through so i didn't even get to hear kids. i could've just died. honestly.

anyway. my scalp along my part got SO sunburned. it was literally red, and now it's starting to peel. do you know what that looks like? do you?

do you??

other than that, everything's going pretty well. i got a second job at place i worked at during high school. it's a personalized  stationary and custom gifts type of business and its run in the owner's home. she has red hair and is super nice.

this news is somewhat old, but aleksandr solzhenitsyn passed last sunday. a great literary force. and a great historical force, really.

frankly, i don't like to read the newspaper. it can be so upsetting. but it's important to be aware of what's going on. so what's a girl do to? i mean, reading the news is definitely better than living the news. must keep things in perspective, i suppose.

i'm very all-over-the-place, i know. but my brain is a little all-over-the-place.

MGMT - Paradise

Kids
Sadly no shots of the bra wearing

The show was pretty good ( band wise). The crowd on the other hand, was somewhat disagreeable.
I'm off to , hopefully, purchase Cut/Copy and Wombats tickets. I'll be amazed if it works out, wish me luck.
I'll post good shows coming up in the next few months in Boston ( and probably nyc), a little later.
MGMT and The Ting Tings are playing a free show in Brooklyn ( McCarren Pool) on Sunday. It would be a true miracle if some how i got there.

Gewd

Santogold and Diplo just released a mixtape and I have to say I'm a fan.
They reworked The Clash's "Guns of Brixton" into the newfangled " Guns of Brooklyn", needless to say, I've been listening to it nonstop basically.

Listen for yourself,
"Guns of Brooklyn"

I'm going to see MGMT tonight, so maybe a picture post tomorrow?

Whoa, Programming Council Does Stuff?

Programming Council (aka waste of time, space, money, and energy) at the fine institution known as Boston University, has actually done something useful. Girl Talk is playing on September 20th, huzzah! Hopefully it actually happens. I have high hopes since Programming Council announced it ( not like the Talib Kweli debacle). I just hope the fine Council can continue on its path to gloriousness ( let's not get 36 Mafia and Cobra Starship again, alright?).
As for other dreams I have for the Boston Area, what is with all this tour hate? In a new occurring and lethal trend, more and more bands have been skipping Boston on their tours. Current example: Cut Copy ( with the Presets). Its commonly becoming the trend to play nyc and philly then go directly to Europe. I know gas is expensive, but please I'm dying. Let's kill this trend okay?

I hope Animal Collective comes to Boston soon. I think Panda Bear harbors some hate though against his old institution. Then again, I think about dropping out of BU all the time , so he just got out lucky.

update--> yay! trend dying, tickets for cut copy with the presets are on sale Friday 7/25 for their show at Paradise.

- sincerely,
pippi

je suis crazy

hello lovelies,

so today has been pretty okay thus far. i worked from 830am-1230pm, which is hard when you go to bed at 330am the night before watching the mighty ducks 3 on tbs. i have work from 6am-10am on thursday. life is rough.

i applied as a transfer to a dreamy university and got my acceptance letter just today! it was exciting, but it bummed my dad out a little bit. but i like, totally get his bumming out. don't think poorly of him--he's just a complex man.

however, i just freaked out at my brother and although i think he deserved it, i feel bad. i'm honestly the only person i know who is SO moody and then completely deluged with guilt. it's a problem.

i have to go do the dishes, but please make sure to wear sunscreen when you go out. even if it's cloudly, the harmful rays come through and can cause premature aging. it's serious.

with great anticipation for a veggie burger for supper/dinner/evening meal,

summer break

HEY!

i've definitely gained weight. i'm also concerned that i might have high cholesterol and might be at risk for a heart attack or stroke! it's serious.

it's been pretty cold. i'm nervous it might be an indian summer and that august will be HOT. august 1-3, i will be standing outside all day, so it's quite imperative that it's not dangerously hot.

there are many ominous things in my life right now.

embracing my worrywart disposition,

p.s. miss you eloise and pippi. hope you two are have one lovely day after another.

summer is here!

hello all,

hope all is well. for the three of us, summer is either here or very, very near! it's quite an exciting time. plus, the weather has been lovely the past few days (after a bout of cold and wind).

however, i am feeling a little blue today. eloise, fellow blogger and my cohabitant, has left for home. i wish she were still here, but i myself will be leaving quite shortly. this makes the pain bearable.

eloise has quite the summer ahead of her. a little travel and an awesome internship. it's going to be LEGEN-wait-for-it-DARY. (we love how i met your mother).

pippi is quite busy as well. i haven't seen her in a while, but i miss her always-brightly-colored-and-fun-and-totally-awesome outfits. they always pop. catch the eye. that sort of thing. oh! and she might come to my hometown (well, the city very nearby) and i will perhaps get to see her. whoop!

okay, well i'm sorry for being absent for so long. i probably should've made this apology toward the beginning of this post. sorry. i'm terribly inconsiderate, yes?

well, just so you all know, i've been eating too much lately. i have a lot to pack and i am not looking forward to it even the tiniest bit. i go home on saturday and could not be more excited.

so yeah, i think that's it for now. sorry if i've made you fall asleep. i'm an old-timer, so only boring, old-timer thoughts come out of my head.

i'll leave you with pete doherty on his first day as a free man. he went into the woods with his manager. it's AWESOME. courtesy of his manager.

Animal Cruelty

This post is dedicated to animals who hate their lives. As exemplified below......
If was were this assorted animals I would have killed myself already, so let's appreciate their courage.

In other findings, I am working on a project so I have no creative flow, but these animals , in their various costumes, give me the strength to carry on.

le tired

hey all,

so the school year is coming to an end, and i think all of us here at coconut brain are ready for our summer vacation. my summer plans are still quite up in the air, but i know i will be returning home for either all or part of my break. and also lolla! whooo!

i have a reading list for my summer break. i think it's time for me to become much more well-versed in literature, you know?

i'm watching family guy. it's like, so funny.

okay. i'm exhausted. i'm off to bed, probably. but let me just tell you, in a couple weeks, i'll going to tell you guys all about the oiling industry and the arctic! it'll couples weeks' worth of research, but i'll keep it short and too the point. it's pretty topical.

Sunday, April 13, 2008

hey!

hey guys,

so i'm at the library right now taking yet another break from writing my paper. it's coming along.

as many of you might know, weezer is coming out with their newest album june 17. this will be their sixth album and their third self-titled album. now, weezer is one favorite bands. i love them more than words can fairly express. the music video for "keep fishin' " is fantastic (as is any collaboration with the muppets). however, make believe was somewhat shitty. it breaks my heart to give such an appraisal, but it really was not up to par with their previous work. i'm wishing with all my heart that this upcoming album will be as great.

"the album is meaty, crunchy and melodic like a good weezer album should be," wrote river on the band's page. oh river, my hopes are held high.

also, people, i'm going to lollapalooza in august and could not be more excited. this year's lineup definitely rivals that of bonnaroo (and let me tell you, both lineups were quite the poop last year). many bands are playing at both festivals, so i'm not too sad i won't be attending bonnaroo this year. i am jealous, however, that manchester will get to see rilo kiley, tegan&sara, zach galifianakis  and david cross and that chicago won't.

i should just learn to deal, yes? yeah.

with sincere hope that you all are doing well,
uncle wiggily

back in da houzzee

Hola sirs and madames,
I have returned from the murky depths that I usually call home ( aka I've been buried in work on neurons hence, I had no pop culture things to talk about). The photo above makes me happier than words can describe. For today, let's take a look into rantings I created in the past..... way back to 2006...

Tuesday, August 08, 2006

Hello , Its me again

Well,
Hello people of the world wide web. Its me.
How have you been? I've been thinking too much and becoming highly philosophical. Its a vicious cycle I get wrapped up in of constantly thinking everything is something else. Enough external psycho babble for now. Now to talk of something less inportant.
Spin Magazine- I once enjoyed reading you. Now that you've been sold and gutted, you have become a worthless piece of crap and a horrible waste of paper. I liked reading about music and enjoying the comedic banter that filled your pages. Now, I have 5 page spreads on Beyonce that quite frankly suck ass. I miss Chuck Klosterman too. Honestly, his articles were one of the best things about you. Sia Michel was an excellent editor too. Now i have to deal with Andy-crapface-probably-drops-lines-about-him-being-an-editor-to-pick-up-underage-hookers Pemberton, excellent. I also hate that all the covers are the same now. Anyway, I liked when you had articles that came from your writers and were personal, now I feel like your attempting to force feed me crap about myspace and " hot" party scenes. Bottomline- Rehire Sia and get Chuck back on or your going to become Teen People's slightly older sister that still wears braces and tries to make friends by talking about how you were so " totally hammered on wine coolers".

I guess thats all the complaining I have to deliver for now.

bye

I was a pretty witty individual... if I don't mind tooting my own horn...
There was also rantings on if I had a country album I would title it
" Kenny Rodgers is dead and now someone must reign over his country legacy". I don't know what I was thinking that would be a horrible name, seriously I could do mo betta. Well, in other news, I'm doing this huge project on the BU Bio Lab ( or as I like to call it the ebola housing facility). Considering I harbor numerous irrational fears, getting ebola probably tops my list. I am terrified one day I will wake up one day without warning and have ebola. In other news, I am seeing Hot Chip next Monday so hopefully there will be enjoyable pictures to follow.

and Yay!! My friend bought me this Buddy Holly CD so me and his zombie rock out daily.

I'm thinking about adding random reviews to my section.. perhaps this will soon follow.

let's you and me catch up

hello puppies!

it's a late night post, but i'll try to stray away from the nonsensical.

so all three of us (eloise, pippi and i, that is) will be busy with a pretty important group project until the end of april. at the moment, i'm pushing off some research i have to conduct. i have till 8pm tomorrow to meet my group, so it'll be done by then for sure. i promise all of you.

i am in desperate need of a dance party. like, just some good ol' fling-your-arms-in-the-air-kick-your-legs-shake-your-head-to-some-rockin'-music relief. when i'm in my hometown (you know, when i'm not at university), my friends and i will rock out for hours, and i mean hours. it's fun. you'd enjoy it too, i bet. (and for those of you who are a bit more inhibited, crack open a bottle of vodka. you'll loosen right up).

i need a bundle/vase of daffodils or sunflowers on my desk or something. they just remind me of bright, bright sunshine. perhaps i will go buy some. now, for all your traditionalists out there with what i must call retrograde thinking, a girl can totally buy her own flowers. for every woman out there who does so, good for you! (i'm feeling very empowered right now. i get this way after midnight, oftentimes).

well, i must go do some of that research i mentioned earlier, mustn't i? take care and if you're going to ride a motorcycle, please wear a helmet. it looks totally cool AND smart - two very attractive qualities,

life is rough

today, i had two video projects due for two different classes, and i realised how high my voice is. it honestly sounds like....gross. i know, i know. nobody likes what his/her voice sounds like, and maybe i'm just overreacting, and maybe the cameras were just weird, but still.

i've been thinking of many ways to handle this little situation of mine.

on another note, tomorrow is going to be job/internship application day. i really have to find a summer internship and find a job for the spring since the gallery i worked at is close until summer and i no longer need to tutor. wish me luck! sunday i will have to study since all next week is midterms.

it's a beautiful spring afternoon. i think i will enjoy the bright light shining through my window as i do things at my desk.

ready to do some hard work this weekend (hopefully!),

WHOA!

my dear friend just told me that radiohead and nine inch nails are to headline lolla this year. although i don't really know nin, i am VERY excited to see radiohead. like, i've seen them only once a couple summers ago and died. one of the two best shows i've seen ever (the other being broken social scene-amazing, i was lifted).

on another quite saddening note, i'm having THE hardest time finding the focus to work on my paper. after this post, though, productive will be my middle name.

lastly, i miss eloise and pippi. eloise is becoming one with nature in her foresty hometown and pippi is off traveling the the mysterious roads of a northern nation. hope you two are having a lovely time.

Thursday, March 6, 2008

a mere two days

it is nearly spring break, and i think everyone here is getting ants in his/her pants. i myself am very antsy.

it's not as if i have any super exciting plans for break. all my friends (i'm actually not exaggerating when i say this) have break week the after i do, but i'll most likely make my friends who go to school nearby neglect their scholarly duties to play with me. whilst i'm at home, however, i plan to spend a good portion of my time catching up on some reading and working on my essay for school. also some internship applications. (are you jealous? you should be.)

but just to get out of this particular city i don't very much like at the moment is happiness. i miss my mama's cooking and i miss my room! i have a very comfortable bed with pink sheets and a pink blanket. but please, don't get the wrong idea. i am not a very pink person. i'm not even a little pink person. if you'd like to know, my wallpaper is white with a diagonal pattern of tiny pink and purple flowers. when i describe it, it sounds awful, but it's very lovely to look at.

i hope you all are keeping warm. it's been rainy and very ugly outside.

make sure to eat a lot of leafy greens and some bananas.

concerned for your nutrition,
uncle wiggily

p.s. it's very late and my brain is tired. please excuse any mistakes i might've made while writing. i'm pouring my soul out here, you know?

bitches, it's leap day.

heylo all,

today is leap day. we only have one of these every four years. they're pretty special. and happy birthday to all your folks who were born on this day! how old are you?

i like the occasional sonic youth song, but they are not my favorite by any means. no, sir. tonight has been a stars night.

i watched penelope tonight, and it was CUTE. if you're in the mood for some cute, i recommend that you go watch that.

my glasses broke and i am very upset about it. they are only a little over a year old. have you ever heard of glasses dying before they hit at least two years? yeah, me neither.

Wilbaer , I love you.

Hi

Since I am such a fan of visual media, here are some visual aids.

WILBAER AKA " THE CUTEST ANIMAL OF ALL TIME"
Wilbaer was recently born in Germany ,
obviously its adorable or otherwise it wouldn't pose in baskets.
3.1 Phillip Lim Helen Fringe Sandals,
that I would like to enjoy on my feet.

Teeny pictures of the new Hermes ads,
I think the imagery is so beautiful.
The painted elephants are amazing.

Awesome colored sunglasses!! Yay!! Spring!!

This is sooo cute. It's a fast food themed backpack!!

Santogold and M.I.A , I wish we were friends.

Visual media ended.

On another note, I'm happy Prince Harry is alive. With him living, there is still a chance of us breeding to continue the red-headed race. We are a dying breed Harry, I need to get on board for the project. England hates gingers (see here) , I'm surprised Harry hasn't been taken out already. They don't even sell red-head Pantene at Sainbury's ( or Waitrose, or Boots).

Prince Harry

= many glorious redheads to re-populate the globe.

Hot Chip -

This is an oldie but a goodie, enjoy !

I SAID NOT TA DAYYYYYYYY

Yeah, I'm knee deep in work I have no interest in doing. So I waste time surfing the interweb and getting mad at worthless things. For example, if anyone has any Hot Chip tickets for either Nyc or Boston I would gladly take them off your hands and then we could be friends forever. My friendship is priceless, you can only barter for my affection. So make your trade offer and I will glance over them and make a grand selection.
Here are some more tidbits of internet that caught my eye:
What I wish my life was: as portrayed by Agyness Deyn and Josh Hubbard of The Paddingtons ( who are rather enjoyable by my standards, I saw them perform an acoustic set and it was pretty glorious).
What my life really is: as portrayed by hedgehog with head stuck in paper towel roll.

ta ta for now sucka mcs,

midweek update

i've been living on pepto-bismol caplets (that eloise was kind enough to pick up for me) and saltine crackers. i think i'm going to kick the nasty habit today.

the devil never sleeps by iron&wine makes me want to dance in a big, green, grassy, daffodil-and- sunflower-filled field. so does the i feel it all by feist. well, a lot of songs nurture this little desire of mine, but lately, these two especially.

la vie en rose is sitting on my desk waiting to be watched. it's in its nice little netflix envelope calling my name, but i'm telling it to wait till friday afternoon. it'll be a nice end to the week, no?

my professors are all really great and super cool. i've known this all along, but it was very evident today.

my heart flutters a bit whenever m.ward (especially with zooey deschanel) plays on my itunes. i feel a new phase coming on.

Stevie Sighting

Stevie Wonder has been seen!! Further proving how amazing he is, he attended Elton John's Oscar Party and you know he was pissed. I wonder if in some magical universe him and Elton have piano battle royales and maybe one special day I'll be invited to witness it. Elton John looks like he was following my old family motto of being the drunkest one at your own party, nicely done Elton.

Since I'm truly addicted to pictures of animals being insane, I shall leave you with a few of my recent favorites......

This one is my favorite, it is a piglet that was adopted by a weiner dog family. He looks very suspicious of his family members.

Well enjoy sirs and madames

too much food

again, i end a day feeling uncomfortably full. i don't eat much throughout the day but for a granola bar and the occasional apple. then when dinnertime rolls around, i'm pretty hungry. then i overeat and feel too full.

this is a problem that i must address. it's actually getting to be kind of a serious concern of mine.

Lee Miller

I just wanted to show pictures taken by Lee Miller. Lee Miller worked for Vogue during World War II, which showed her fashion and war photography. Before the war, she was a student of Man Ray and together they developed solarization. She was also friends with many surrealists and Pablo Picasso. Miller was the person who came to Picasso once Paris had been liberated and told him the war was ended. After World War II she became less involved in photography and became more reclusive. One of her final editorials had her famous artist friends doing basic labor at her farm. I saw her exhibition at the V&A in London and here is a small sampling of her work.
